C I&E Formative Assessment & Feedback

Updated: Mar 28, 2020

Formative assessment - the first time we are presenting as a group!

Overall, I thought we did quite well ! - especially due to the preliminary feedback we were given on the day from the panel of assessors - I think our group did really well - and I feel even after all the nerves, we should all be really proud of ourselves!

After we had finished presenting in front of the panel, we were then allocated 5 or 10 minutes of questions, answers and preliminary feedback.

During this time - (while mentally trying to remember short points - for me to quickly jot down in my journal) my peer member Franck, was jotting down key, important feedback points onto his queue cards in pencil - I took a few pictures of these for guidance, as shown below;

Key points being;

- Values, (mission age - workshop ) we definitely need to have a 2nd look at our elevator pitch - and tweak this so that our main group values jump out.

- Also, I would be very beneficial to remove the text on the slide of the pitch, as it is hard to listen to what is being said - when their is text to read on the slide

Furthermore, I would be a great idea for us, to break up the elevator pitch - and for us all to say our own small section! - great idea!

- (PILOT?)

- An image of who we are (together) - would also be a good way of expressing ourselves as a team - and for our website - visually

- A collective, maybe begin to think about what spaces are free and available right now for you? although the idea of utilising empty buildings sounds 'nice' their are far too many health and safety risks to go with this - so maybe start local? possibly a space within the Queensgate Market - or somewhere local to us?

- Maybe have yourself a 'common fact' - an ice breaker for the audience

- And finally, Robin Widerson (Kirklees) would be a great person for us to speak too about available spaces, if you actually want to carry out this group work physically!

Formal Assessment - Formative Feedback: -

(As shown in both images below): -

- This feedback was extremely thorough - and full of helpful tip and routes for us to explore - and all valid and achievable.

- I will ensure i refer back to this feedback - frequently and often - when refining and completing our work for the summative assessment deadline.

Finally - Out last session, physically at university, we were given the opportunity to sit down with our tutor - Jo, and go though a feedback slightly and get any of our burning questions answered.

Image below, denoting my 'To-Do' list - including a help-full guide I can distribute to my team members - for when they are producing their introduction and spoken element of the presentation - this will help them be more clear - and cross off guidelines - but also improve - as this was one critical point above in our formal formative feedback.

The point being; "Good clear introduction of your skills and role – all team members would be good to follow suite with your role and skill set".

- and my helpful, guide below being; "Who we are / what we do / what our role is and what we are bringing to the group / what are we getting out of this task - referring to our portfolios - include a formal image".

Below, are my notes from our short session with Jo. I tried my best to note down any critical point i thought needed to be rectified immediately on our presentation - and (slightly expanded) points for improvement.

- Anonymous 'consent form' & fill our any ethics forms we have to - for the idea of physically going out - and speaking with members of the public - as live action research - an interview.

- Refine the elevator pitch - to be more reader friendly and always finish our sentences. Make sure everything is clear ! (especially the last sentence) , explain what it IS that 'they' will be leaving and taking away with them.

- EXPLAIN EVERYTHING CLEARLY & speak SLOWLY -

- Could we produce our product ideas? T-shirts and tote-bags etc?

- Then a brief explanation on what is expected for our submission point.

Overall, this was a really helpful session - as it allowed us to gain a slightly more understandable view on the feedback - which will help us to edit our overall submission - but also this was our final opportunity for our group to come together, discuss and explore any final ideas; such as, the one of live actions interviews, and our product idea as a group in person; before the following events we are currently facing - the COVID-19 epidemic, the closure of the University and all its facilities and being under home isolation - we were un able to physically carry out these task - even though we fully intended too.

(Image below - showing the purchase of 5x T-shirts - of which we intended to screen print on to - our logo - and our roles, and also the delivery of Canvas Tote Bags - to which we were also going to do the same - as a physical example - when we presented for the final submission).
